2010 - the Year of Sparkle & Shine!
“After September 11, we saw a shift to safer, more traditional colors, grayer and more somber,” said Carrie Davies, owner of Decorating Den Interiors in the Cypress-Fairbanks area. “Now, however, we’re seeing an increase in pops of colors such as metallics, silvers and copper. We’re seeing it in fabrics and kitchen redesign.”
Peggy McGowen, ASID, CMKBD, owner of Kitchen & Bath Concepts and a certified master kitchen and bath designer, agrees.
“There is more shine, more sparkle, that’s the trend,” she said. “People are using environmentally friendly materials made out of reconstituted rock and glass to get the desired effect.”
Dale B
usic, with CertaPro Painters, is an expert on the new paint colors for 2010. He, along with Davies and McGowen will be speaking about the emerging trends and what’s hot and what’s not at the upcoming third annual Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show.![]()
Davies will discuss how to best use color to enhance your home and what hues will be most popular. “We don’t want people to be afraid of color, but we also want them to know that sometimes it does make sense to get some professional advice,” she said.
Busic will present an array of spiffy new color choices that are perfect for transitioning into the new decade. He will discuss the features and benefits of different brands and types of paint, as well as which paints are best for particular projects.
McGowen will focus on the newest looks in countertops and cabinetry, which she said have become simpler and more contemporary with less detail and sleeker lines.
“I think it’s a reaction to our complicated lives. When we get home, we need something that is calming, not so cluttered and with so much detail that it makes you feel confused,” she said.
For the rest of what clutters up the home and how to eliminate it, Linda Durham
, professional organizer and owner of Organizing Matters, will also be on hand. The high-energy Durham is as entertaining as she is informative and is one of the show’s most popular speakers.
"I will identify the clutter that crowds out quality of life,” Durham said. “By the end of the seminar, attendees will be able recognize the faulty logic we all use to create clutter.”
He's not known as a color pro but he did wear the red of the Houston Rockets very well. By any color Rudy Tomjanovich "Rudy T" was and still is perhaps the most popular former Houston Rocket ever. The beloved former player and coach will be on hand to sign autographs and visit with attendees (both days).
