Eliminate clutter with Linda Durham

Professional organizer Linda Durham believes that everyone can say goodbye to household clutter.

“You need to be as organized as you can to handle what life throws at you,” she said. “There are a lot of things you can’t control, but you can control your home and your stuff.”

Durham will describe her basic organizing techniques at the upcoming Fifth Annual Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show held on February 25 & 26, 2012 at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress, TX 77433.

Durham’s presentation, “Take De-Stress Out of  De-Clutter" will give a realistic, fresh, and humorous look at the stuff that crowds out the beauty of life.  Durham says, "Take on your clutter, one step at a time. See it. Laugh at it. Cry with it. Let it go. Let Life fill in the spaces."

She will focus on simple principles that can make a huge impact on any household.

“These are my core principles,” Durham said. “I don’t want to just tell people what to put where. I want them to know why.”

Durham explains that if people know why certain rules apply, then they will understand how to handle any organizing situation. “It gives people permission to do what fits them,” she said. “Not all principles work for everyone.”

Durham discovered her methods while rescuing herself from a cluttered home and overwhelming schedule. She described herself as a classic cluttered and disorganized mom, who was always busy and perpetually behind.

“I hit organizing rock bottom,” she said. “I slowly worked through my entire home. I’m sympathetic to my clients, because I’ve been there and done that.”

Durham earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky.  She was a stay-at-home mom for nine years and served as director of a youth ministry for three years. After moving to Houston in 1999, she started her own business, Organizing Matters, where she now works as a professional organizer, consultant and speaker.

Durham is a member the National Association of Professional Organizers and the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization. She is the founder of the only community of Christian professional organizers -- Faithful Organizers.

Durham is one of several presenters who will appear at the Fourth Annual Cy-Fair Home and Garden show, with topics ranging from gardening and landscaping to home décor and cooking.
